Naptime Crazies
I've been promising to re-start this blog, so for those of you patient enough to still check from time to time... it's here!! No photos on this post, but they're coming as well.
Caleb has had some crazy naps in the last couple weeks, all of which involved a pack n play at someone else's house.
#1: Nana's house. Caleb and I were spending the afternoon with my mom. The pack n play isn't his favorite place to sleep, so he was a little crabby when I put him to bed. All of a sudden he got really quiet... and then we heard the crash. He pulled a full length mirror off the wall, nails and everything! Thankfully the mirror didn't break. When did his arms get so long!?!
#2: Aunt Ali & Uncle Bill's house. George and I were on a marriage retreat so Caleb stayed with my sister and brother-in-law (and 2 German shepherds!) for the weekend. My parents were there for brunch on Sunday, and my dad laid him down for his nap. He fussed for a few minutes, then got really quiet. 15-20 minutes later, he started crying... and fussing... and crying... and fussing. As I mentioned before, he isn't a huge fan of the pack n play, so this isn't entirely out of the ordinary, except for the fact that it lasted nearly an hour. When my sister went to check on him, the first thing she saw was a blood smear across his cheek. Thankfully, just a very slight bloody nose that he'd wiped from crying - looked much worse than it actually was! Of course the real problem... Caleb has recently learned to "help" me change the sheet in his crib by pulling up on the edges, but when he tried this in the pack n play, he wound up folding the mattress into quarters. It was rolled up on one side... he was sitting on a piece of thin nylon fabric on the other side, right on top of a metal bar. Not exactly conducive to sleeping!! I always wondered why Graco put velcro on the underside of the mattress. Now I know.
#3: Grandma & Grandpa's house. Caleb and I were spending the afternoon with my in-laws after getting his 18-month photos taken. Again, he fussed for just a few minutes then got quiet, so we assumed he'd fallen asleep. 25 minutes later... crash!! My mother-in-law went to check on him, and the next thing I hear was, "oh, dear, Caleb... I'm going to have to get some help to clean this up!" He'd apparently spent the 25 minutes of quiet emptying her jewelry box into his pack n play as we found him surrounded with necklaces, bracelets, and earrings. He likely emptied several drawers by the time we discovered him! He managed to open the doors that swing out on the sides with necklace hooks, and eventually pulled the entire thing down to the floor. Again, when did his arms get so long!?! Thankfully by the time we got it cleaned up every earring had a pair, so it doesn't appear he put anything in his mouth. I also greatly appreciated my mother-in-law's sense of humor about it.... "Guess I'll start my spring cleaning by organizing my jewelry box!"
Ah, the adventures of parenthood :)
